Rule management for Websites Proxy support for Websites Features: External links Web Rules - Free Rules for Hosting Websites Category:Proxy server softwareA process for recovering lanthanum values from ores containing lanthanum as a primary component and also containing other valuable materials is generally known. The lanthanum is usually recovered by an oxidizing leach process wherein the ore is contacted with an aqueous solution of a soluble oxidizing agent such as nitric acid and oxygen. The oxidizing agent preferentially reacts with the lanthanum to form La.sub.2 O.sub.3. As a result of this reaction, the other valuable materials of the ore are rendered insoluble and separate from the leach liquor. The lanthanum is then recovered from the leach liquor by precipitating the lanthanum from the liquor as a hydroxide. Several problems are encountered in the above procedure. The oxidizing agent must be added in an amount sufficient to oxidize the lanthanum but not so much as to attack the other valuable materials of the ore. In order to achieve this it is necessary to achieve a high degree of mixing between the ore and the oxidizing agent. This necessitates the use of large holding tanks. In order to prevent the mixing of the leach liquor with air, and hence oxidation of the leach liquor, the holding tanks must be sealed so that the oxidizing agent solution may be pumped into and out of the tanks without substantial mixing. One solution to this problem, has been to treat the ore with a relatively concentrated oxidizing agent prior to leaching. While this has the advantage of enabling smaller holding tanks, it suffers from the disadvantage that the oxidizing agent loses some of its oxidizing effect as it is diluted by the addition of the leach liquor and it is also not possible to use much more concentrated solutions of the oxidizing agent. Another solution, which suffers from the same disadvantage, has been to inject the oxidizing agent under pressure through a porous ore mass. It is the object of this invention to provide an improved process for recovering lanthanum values from an ore containing such values. It is also an object of this invention to provide an improved oxidizing process for the recovery of lanthanum values. It is a further object of this invention to provide an improved process for recovering lanthanum values from an ore containing such values. It is another object of this invention to provide
